Our Little Snapper

The big man had his first swim lesson on Friday and it didn't start so well. He started freaking out as soon as we got in the pool. He was climbing, scratching and kicking to get out of the pool. The instructor just had me hold him close while he watched the other kids do stuff. That didn't help a whole lot. Then we went over to the side on a step where he played with rings while I got him used to water on his head by slowly pouring it over him. He didn't mind the water as he even laughed about it. He loved picking up the rings from the water and put them in the bucket. He was having fun until we were asked to join everyone...the kicking and screaming started again. He started to have fun 25 minutes in...of course with only 5 minutes left. The last 5 minutes were spent with him sitting on the "hippo" and then "falling" towards me where I caught him. He LOVED this activity and it is supposed to help him get used to the water. So, out of the 30 minutes and many learning activities he liked two activities and enjoyed 5 minutes. It can only get better from here. Andy did not capture photos of any of the activities, but here is what he did get.

The majority of the photos are of him trying to get away from me and probably yelling for "daaaaddddyyy" to come save him. Next Friday will be another session because he is signed up for every Friday evening. Boy, have times changed. Now my Friday nights consist of swimming in a pool of pee with my son and 5 other toddlers. I say that because they wear these super thin reusable swim diapers. They are not diapers in the sense that they soak up pee, but they are poop catchers because they are tight on the legs so they contain any poop that might occur. That is why I say I am swimming in a pool of pee that is very heavily chlorinated. At least my kid is learning how to swim...right?

I hate to break it to you but anytime you are in a public pool (adults or kids) you are in a pool of pee. Facts of life.

Yikes! I hope next week gets a little easier! I bet he loves it before too long. (And Pam's right.)
