California Day 3

We spent day three at the San Diego Zoo.


We started with a bus tour of the zoo in hopes that would help lessen the walking for Max. He really didn't enjoy the bus tour because he couldn't see the animals very well.


Once we walked around Max started to enjoy it a little more.

I think his favorite was seeing the giraffes.


We rode the tram a couple times across the zoo.




All Max wanted to do was get his face painted like a cheetah. I was surprised he wanted to do this and would allow a stranger to do this to his face, but he really wanted to. He LOVED it.





We eventually headed back to the hotel and got ready to go out for fish tacos for dinner.

California Day 2

Day two was the 25th and that was Max’s birthday. He turned 5 and I can’t believe how fast time flies. We started the morning at the Lego restaurant for a birthday boy breakfast and then we headed to the park.

Max wore his Batman Lego birthday shirt that I had made for him.

We got in the park an hour early since we stayed at the Lego resort. We started off right away and hit many rides.

After a long day we left the park with a tired boy and headed to our hotel in San Diego. It was on the bay and face the U.S. Navy ship. Max loved this and he loved watching the giant shipping boats go past our hotel.

We went out for.a birthday dinner at a seafood restaurant on the Bay. This was so Max could get salmon for his birthday dinner. We ended up sitting outside on the deck where we could watch the boats.

We got birthday ice cream and headed to the hotel with one very tired five year old birthday boy.

California Day 1

We left for California on Sunday morning the 24th and it was a very long 6 hour drive because an almost five year old has to stop and pee constantly. 

We stayed the first night at the Legoland hotel since Max is currently obsessed with Legos. This little boy was so excited to stay in the Pirate themed room. This hotel was neat and worth one night stay, but it was also a little chaotic for me. Basically all rules went out the window for parents and their kids. It was almost too much for me, but Max LOVED it. His favorite part was the Whoopi cushion they had hidden under the rug and you could stomp on to make super loud fart noises. The hotel had a scavenger hunt for Max when we checked in. He had to figure out a series of numbers that were going to unlock a treasure chest in his room. The chest had two sets of LEGOS for him to keep. That was a nice touch.

We had dinner at the Lego restaurant.

After dinner we spent a couple hours that night at Legoland just checking it out and getting in a few rides.

We went to bed at a decent time because of the long day planned for the next day. Max was excited to sleep in the top bunk bed. 

Birthday with Friends

This year I decided not to go all out for Max’s birthday party since we planned to go to California instead. However, we did have some friends over on the 23rd for pool time, grilling out and cake. Max was super excited to have his best friends over to help him celebrate his birthday. 

We started with some pool time on this hot summer day.

The kids all had dinner together. 

I skipped all the crazy decorations, but I couldn’t resist to get Max a Batman cake...which he requested specifically from Albertson’s. 

It was time to blow out the candles. Max actually liked everyone singing Happy Birthday to him this year. 

Max got the birthday party that he wanted this year - spend time with his friends and have a Batman cake. We headed out early the following morning for California.

Father’s Day

Father’s Day weekend started with a rainy Saturday. Max thought this was awesome that he got to play outside in the rain with his rain boots. He gets so excited to see rain and honestly, it was a nice break from the heat. I believe it was only 75 degrees that day and that is not normal for June.

On Sunday Max and I made Andy some Father’s Day pancakes. They were in the shape of a man and he was so excited to make them. We all went bowling and played games at Main Event. Max had to order some cheese curds while we were there. I am sure they weren’t as good as WI cheese curds, but he loved them anyway

Max was super excited to give Andy his gift. We made him a basketball with Max’s hand prints for his first year of playing basketball. Andy can then display this in his office with all their other sports items he has in there.

We finished Father’s Day with a nice grilled dinner.

Low Key

We have been low key lately. Our weekends have been spent playing basketball and swimming.

Max started basketball again and he's still liking it.




It's been so hot here that we have spent a lot of time in the pool. Max has turned into such a little fishy.


Max has been going to "camp" at Wee Blessings for a few hours a day and he's loving it. Each day they have a theme that can include dressing up, games and plenty of projects. He loves going and playing with the other kids there.

We did a project this past weekend that was him painting with straws in shaving cream. He actually had a lot of fun with this so we did it twice. At the end of the project I took paper and laid it over the shaving cream to create artwork. He thought this was pretty cool.
