Public Meltdown

On Saturday we decided to take Max to get a haircut. This would be his third haircut and he needed it really bad as his head was starting to look a little shaggy. I got him in the car chair at the salon and so far he was good. Then the lady put the cape around his neck and all hell broke lose. We took the cape off, but that didn't stop the meltdown. We moved to a bigger chair for Max to sit on my lap during his haircut, but he wanted daddy. We switched seats. Didn't matter. He was screaming the whole time. The lady was awesome. I have no idea how she was able to cut his hair. He was screaming, flailing his arms in the air, tears streaming down his face and full on boogers pouring out of his nose. This was Maxim's first public meltdown and he had an audience. I didn't care though. I just kept trying to help calm him down, but he wanted to have nothing to do with getting his hair cut.

I was shocked because he was pretty good the last two times we went. The lady told me this was pretty normal between the second and fifth visit. Uhm ok! She also told me to expect it again the next visit and possibly the one after that. Great! I can't wait until his next haircut.

After the traumatic (it might have been more traumatic for Andy and I) haircut experience we went home and turned our living room into a big fort. Isn't that what you do after your kid has a complete public meltdown for 20 minutes over getting his haircut? Well, that's what we did.

Max loved the fort in the living room. We left it up for a good hour while it entertained the now very happy little boy!

I had him all dressed in his Polo sear sucker shorts with a Polo shirt for the Kentucky Derby, but after the fun times at the salon he was left with just the shorts for the occasion. Max loved the Derby! He kept pointing to the TV and giggling at the "horsies." I think that sport is right up his alley. It contains animals and lasts just as long as his attention span. It's a perfect sport for this active toddler.
