My doctor told me that 3% of women go into preterm labor and I just must be in that lucky 3%. Yay me! Since I have a preterm labor on my history there is now a 6% chance of it happening again. The doc thinks that since it's a fluke the chances of it happening to me again are slim. If (and that's a BIG IF) we get pregnant again my doctor said she will give me the weekly progesterone shot (not a steroid shot like I previously mentioned) starting at the 16 week mark just to be cautious. I will also be classified as high risk because its now on my files, but my doctor can still be my doctor because she doesn't consider a "fluke" preterm labor that high risk. I agree with her.

And The Results Are In
I saw my OB GYN doctor today and I found out the tests from my delivery that could help explain why I went into preterm labor. I went in hoping for a black and white answer. Something very matter-of-fact and nothing in the gray scale. Of course I found out that based on the tests my preterm labor was a fluke and there is no explanation for why it happened. There was bacteria in my placenta which caused me to go into labor, how the bacteria got there, the doctor has no idea. Normally bacteria will get there if my water broke early, but mine broke while I was pushing the big man out. So, she is dumbfounded on how the bacteria reached the placenta. Basically, it did and its a fluke that it did.
