Preparation for Guests

We have guests arriving this week, so that means home improvements.  The home improvements we needed to do was nothing new as these are the improvements we (ok, I) have been wanting to do for a long time, but we just haven't gotten around to it.  Yay, for the guests because now we are getting so many things done that need to get done. We spent every weekend in January doing everything from shopping, painting, decorating and assembling.  The first thing we did was put together two storage units for the garage to A) clean up the garage and B) have a place to store all of our wedding gifts and entertaining pieces.

Andy spent the first weekend cleaning the garage and then assembling the first storage unit.  The second weekend Andy put together the second unit and I then filled both units with all of our wedding gifts, which then cleared out the third bedroom that was housing the gifts.

One of our much needed storage units in the garage.  Only took us three years to finally do it.

Then it was time to figure out decorations for the two bedrooms.  Andy has always hated the yellow color that I picked for the second bedroom four years ago, so it was time to change it up.  We went with a nice blue for two of the walls and then "parchment paper" (aka ivory) for the other two walls.  This turned out much better than the bright yellow I had in there and we are both happy with the turnout.

The perfect blue.  We are both so much happier with the new colors of the bedroom.

I found a duvet cover that I liked a lot and then it was time to figure out decorations for the wall.  I found the cutest sign that says "Bed & Breakfast, You Make Both."   That was perfect for a guest bedroom.  From there everything else just feel into place.

The perfect sign for a guest bedroom.

I just love this room now.  Looks so much better than the old room.

This appropriate sign is on the opposite wall.

Then it was time to paint the third bedroom and I decided on the parchment paper as well for all four walls.  I chose not to do colors in that room since Andy wants to turn that into his office after the guests leave, so we kept it neutral.  I did add in color with the curtains and the bedspread as I went with plum.  Since this is not going to be a permanent bedroom I kept the walls bare.

Now that I am so happy with what we have done I want to do more.  I want to complete our bedroom and move onto the kitchen.  In order to get that done we probably need more house guests to schedule their visit.  It seems that is the only time we get stuff done around here.

The house is cleaned, the home improvements are finished, and the guests have arrived so let the chaos of fun begin.
